Offshore, there is always a never-ending supply
of unhealthy sweets in some shape or form. On the REM Installer there are
ALWAYS home made donuts, ice cream and cake. Healthy sweet options include only
fresh fruit and to satisfy my sugar cravings, I’ve been devouring a lot of it.
To keep myself motivated I thought it would
be a good idea to write about all the benefits of the fruits I’ve been eating
including grapes, apples, oranges, pineapple, watermelon, honeydew melon
and cantaloupe. I hope you all can find some motivation in this post as well!

1) Grapes
- Antioxidants (~30!) including Resveratrol and Tanin, Manganese, Potassium, Caffeic Acid and Vitamins C, B1, B6 and K.
- Helps to protect you from breast, colon and prostate cancers, cardiovascular disease, irregular blood sugar levels and cognitive decline.
2) Apples:
- Soluble Fibre, Phytonutrients and Antioxidants.
- Helps to regulate blood sugar, decrease risk of asthma and reduce your odds of developing several types of cancer.
3) Oranges:
- Calcium, Folate, Potassium, Vitamins including C, A and B1 and Phytonutrients – anthocyanin, falvonoids, polyphenols and hydroxycinamic acids.
- Helps to lower blood pressure, fight off colds and the flu, and protect you from diseases such as lung and stomach caners as well as arthritis and atherosclerosis. They also reduce your risk of stroke and heart disease.
4) Pineapple:
- Bromelain enzyme, Manganese, Copper, Foliate, Vitamin B6 and C.
- Helps to keep your immune system strong and are also a great source of energy.
5) Watermelon:
- Potassium, Magnesium, Lycopene, Vitamins A and C.
- Helps to prevent a lot of cancers, gives an energy boots and helps to keep you looking and feeling good because of the amino acid arginine as well as helps to avoid high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and erectile dysfunction.
6) Honeydew Melon:
- Potassium, Copper, Vitamins A, C and B (niacin and thiamine).
- Helps your body detoxify and also protects you from cardiovascular disease, infection, skin damage, several types of cancer and eye disorders.
7) Cantaloupe:
- Beta-Carotene, Foliate, Potassium, Magnesium, Vitamins A, B1, B6, C and K.
- Protects you from macular degeneration, emphysema, fatigue, irregular blood sugar, low metabolism, stroke, heart disease, immune weakness and several types of cancer.
