TRAVEL DAYS: DELAYS & LONG AIRPORT STAYS

Yesterday i started my travels to Texas for my next offshore hitch. Bad weather caused an overnight stay in New Jersey and another early flight the next morning to make it to Texas. In total i was travelling (with delays) for about 35 hours. I tend to subconsciously stress a lot while travelling, which causes me to have migraines and tension headaches.

Since i know i'm prone to these problems i try to treat my body best as possible to make travelling easier on me. This time around i had no stress related problems and i think it was because of two easy but sometimes forgotten factors: drink a lot of water and eat as healthy as possible. Airport travelling can be very rushed (making connections, getting to the airport, etc.) so these two supposedly easy and obvious factors can be forgotten.

For myself, travelling is a physical experiment with my body to see what it's reactions are to both stress and malnutrition. From travelling so much i really do feel like i am exposed to both of these factors often and therefore experience the related positive (high energy levels and lower stress levels) and negatives side effects (low energy levels, higher stress levels) of eating good compared to eating bad.

Although it is brought to my attention more so when i am travelling, drinking water and eating healthy are also commonly forgotten in our daily lives. Sometimes your body reacts and tells you that you're physically treating it like shit and causing high stress levels and sometimes it's more of a long term process such as gaining weight or related skin problems.

It's important to try to remember to drink that extra glass of water or pick the salad over the hamburger at least once a day. By doing this, you're helping your body deal with stress and choosing a healthy lifestyle over the alternative.

I am trying to keep up this thought process into the new year as one of my resolutions and wish anyone with other health related resolutions all the best.

Jess.
