Hi Everyone!
Thanks for visiting my new blog and taking the time to read what i have to say, be it good or bad. It's not only going to be a learning process for me health wise but also regarding blogging since this context of blog is a lot different than what i am used to with my photo one. Whether you'll be back on a normal basis or are just stopping by, i appreciate the visit nonetheless. For my first post, i thought it might be a good idea to answer a basic questionnaire. This will give all you readers a chance to get to know me if you don't already in real life.

Jess.
1) What got you
focused on living a healthy lifestyle? Since starting to work offshore I’ve
developed a small obsession with reading health books. It can get pretty boring
on the boat so these reading gives me something interesting and helpful to do
on the down time. I've always been fairly healthy but learning more about
what's in the foods I've been eating has been a huge game changer for me.
2) What motivates
you? For me, living a healthy lifestyle isn’t about losing weight
and I don’t think it should be for anyone. A healthy lifestyle is about feeling
good mentally and physically. This stems from eating healthy, getting the
proper exercises and having the right frame of mind. My motivation is the
people i am surrounded by. I want to have as much time on this planet as
possible with the people I love and one way i can increase the chances of that
happening is by having a healthy lifestyle.
3) What is your
favourite food? Steak,
home-made pizza and chilli. I will never be able to narrow that answer down to
just one thing, i love food too much to pick a favourite.
4) What is your
least favourite food? I absolutely hate onions.
5) What is your
favourite fruit? Grapefruit.
6) What is your favourite vegetable? Broccoli.
7) What food should you probably give up but won’t? Cheese, although I try to stick to the healthier option of lighter types so I can still enjoy it and keep it in my diet.
8) What is your favourite exercise? Sit-ups.
9) What is your least favourite exercise? Running is just awful.
10) What type of
milk do you prefer? I
like both unsweetened almond and coconut milk.
11) What is your favourite type of meat or fish? I don't eat fish but i like all meat types. My favourite would have to be beef.
12) What is your favourite kitchen appliance? My juicer! It’s a Breville BJE200XL. It has great wattage (700 watts) and therefore speed (14 000 RPM), it's easy to clean and the compact size is perfect for my individual needs.
13) What is the best health tip you have? This is a no brain-er and something people still don’t do – drink water and LOTS of it!!
14) What do you think is one of the unhealthiest foods? Processed meat and cheese.
15) What protein powder do you use? The one I’ve been using repeatedly for awhile now is Genuine Health Proteins Plus.
16) Juices or
smoothies? I’m a fan
of both but juicing is the better option for me because I have digestive
issues. Since juicing removes the fibre from what’s being ingested, my system
doesn’t have to work as hard to break it down.
17) Tips for flu
season? Lemon and ginger tea, oil of oregano,
raspberries, blackberries, repeat.
18) What’s the
worst temptation for you while eating offshore? The desserts! I’m normally not much of a
sweets person but in the cafeteria or ‘galley’ (for those of you who don’t know
boat language) the desserts are almost always on display. This tends to make
them look irresistible. But I resist!
19) What is your favourite health related book? Right now I'm really enjoying Skinny Bitch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin. Its sarcastic take on being healthy and maintaining it in lifestyle choices might be the kind of perspective some people need to get their butt in gear. It's a no fuss way of telling you to stop eating shit and living like shit or you won't be a 'Skinny Bitch.'
20) What is your favourite health related documentary? Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead. This documentary introduced me to juicing and all of the related benefits. The before and after transformations in this movie were unreal!
